Enhance Your Research and Writing Skills to be a Part of Expanding Jain Studies Globally

 

This initiative is to create a cadre of English speaking scholars of Jainism in India, who are well equipped with research methodologies and written and oral presentation skills to engage in academic discussions, research and teaching concerning Jain philosophy and its relevance today.

 

About Fellowship

Eight-week of intensive hands on training in different aspects of research from research proposal making to conducting research, analysis techniques, proficiency in written and spoken presentations in English commensurate with the requirements for publication in peer reviewed journals. This fellowship does not claim and guarantee to provide any job opportunities.

 

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this fellowship, participants will:

  • Improve research, writing, and communication skills through engaging in a rigorous process of research, writing, and presenting academic papers.
  • Demonstrate understanding of central Jain philosophical, religious, cultural and ritual concepts.
  • Develop ideas focussing on aspects of Jainism, utilizing high-quality, academic, and relevant sources.
  • Utilize standard academic English syntax and mechanics.
  • Become familiar with the process of publishing.

  • An engaging, environment that encourages interactions amongst participants and faculty.
  • Faculty who are both published scholars and master educators from overseas and India.
  • Free boarding, lodging, classroom and library facilities.
  • On successful completion of the program, the participants will get a certificate from ISJS and an American university along with credit hours.

Timing / Schedule

Monday, October 16 – Friday, December 15, 2023 with One week Diwali break.

 

Admission Requirements

  • Only Indian Jain scholars / researchers are eligible for this fellowship.
  • Individuals with demonstrable academic attainments and engaged in Jain Studies and committed to pursue further engagement in the same and
  • Have completed an M.A. program and enrolling in Ph.D. programs OR
  • Are currently enrolled Ph.D. students OR
  • Completed their Ph.D. in Jain studies within the last three years.

 

Admission Procedure

To apply for this workshop you should submit the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae: Your CV should include the following: education (list degrees, dates awarded, and titles of theses or dissertations), current and past positions. Maximum 2 pages.
  • Personal Statement: Your personal statement should indicate why you want to participate in this program and briefly discuss what you hope to get out of it. Not to exceed 300 words.
  • Research Proposal: Not to exceed 750 words, A clear description of a proposed topic within Jain Studies that you would like to research and write on while participating in this workshop. You are also welcome to propose revising an unpublished paper by you or your MA thesis or dissertation you would like to prepare for publication, or chapters of the dissertation/thesis on which you are currently writing.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Please submit letters of recommendation from two (02) faculty/department heads who can speak for your work within the academy and commitment to Jain Studies.
